David “Chi” Chichester ’67 was originally recruited by men’s basketball coach Stan Ward and men’s soccer coach Cliff Stevenson to play basketball and soccer at Brown. Goalkeeping for the soccer team became his passion and the focus of his athletic career at Brown. A generous financial aid package from the University made his life-changing undergraduate experience possible.
A native of Long Island, Chi found his community at Brown through friendships forged with teammates, fraternity brothers, and classmates with whom he later served in the Vietnam War. As an alumnus, he has mentored current and former student-athletes and hosted the soccer team at his home in Washington state. Now, as co-president of the Brown Sports Foundation Board of Directors, chair of the men’s soccer association, and a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Athletics, he actively volunteers his time to improve athletics for current and future Brown Bears. In 2008, Chi established a charitable remainder trust, which provided him an immediate charitable deduction and an income for life. The trust is invested in Brown’s endowment, and he receives 6% of the trust’s assets each year—helping diversify his portfolio for retirement. The trust assets will eventually support the Men’s Soccer Endowment.
Chi is proud to give back to the institution that continues to be at the heart of some of his deepest connections.
